My name is Simeon Chambers, based in Highlands Ranch, Colorado, USA.   I cut and sell high quality Engelmann Spruce  to many top professionals around the world.   I do the cutting in the forest, the splitting, the stacking, the milling in the shop, the grading and the shipping.  I see the wood from start to finish.  That is one key why I have so much confidence in my spruce for makers at the highest level, anywhere in the world.  Please don't build with inferior wood. Of the 10 violins that won tone awards in the 2010 Violin Society of America competition, 4 of them used Simeon Chambers Tonewood spruce!

Why use Engelmann Spruce?  If Stradivari were alive today he would have loved Engelmann Spruce.  He would not have had to reject so much European Spruce to select what he really wanted.  If you look at the wood that he often chose, you find that its typical density was a lot like the Engelmann I cut in Colorado.    He chose European Spruce that had Engelmann characteristics.  A reasonable density (.34 to .40 specific gravity) and with grain lines that were not too thick.  Much European Spruce today being sold is way to dense  (.42 SG and higher) to acheive great sound.

The number one goal for Simeon Chambers Tonewood is to produce the finest violin wood available. I only cut the best Engelmann Spruce logs, just the ones that are excellent. I handsplit all log sections before sawing them on my Italian made (Laguna) bandsaw.
